Karang Ceria: Perancangan Galeri Edukasi Karang dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Berkelanjutan di Kota Medan
Karang Ceria : Designing Coral Learning Gallery with Sustainable Architecture Approach in Medan City
Abstract
The Karang Ceria Educational Gallery is designed as a public learning
space aimed at increasing community awareness and understanding of the
importance of coral reef ecosystems. The main focus of this design is the
implementation of interactive design within the gallery's interior, in order to
create a deep and meaningful educational experience for visitors, especially
students and the general public. Through the integration of interactive
exhibition elements, digital media, and experience-based educational
programs, visitors not only gain information about coral reef biology, but are
also encouraged to understand the negative impacts of human activities on the
ocean and the importance of conservation efforts. This approach aligns with
the concept of edutainment, which combines learning and entertainment as an
effective strategy for delivering environmental messages. In addition, the
spatial design is supported by visual narratives and layouts that guide active
interaction between visitors and exhibits. The design results show that
interactivity in educational spaces can enhance visitors’ cognitive and
emotional engagement with marine issues. Therefore, the Karang Ceria
Educational Gallery is expected to serve as a model of educational space that
promotes ecological awareness and conservation behavior toward marine
ecosystems from an early age.
