Medan City has been designated by the government as a MICE
destination, requiring further development to enhance its potential in this
sector. The MICE industry plays a crucial role in boosting national revenue and
stimulating Medan’s regional economy.
As Indonesia’s third-largest city, Medan is a key hub for business,
industry, and trade, making it highly attractive for national and international
MICE investments. To support these activities, the city needs a convention and
exhibition center equipped with comprehensive facilities to accommodate
various MICE events within a single, dedicated venue.
A Convention Center is a viable solution, offering meeting spaces that
cater to the MICE industry as well as business and industry professionals,
facilitating knowledge exchange through meetings, incentives, exhibitions,
conferences, and conventions. The proposed design will adopt a NeoVernacular Architecture approach, integrating local elements shaped by
tradition while incorporating modern innovations. This architectural style will
be reflected in the building’s form, façade, materials, and interior design. The
planned convention center will be the city’s only international-scale facility, with
approximately 80% of its design representing Medan’s rich cultural heritage.
