Keterlibatan Marga Purba terhadap Kemenangan Pasangan Calon Syukri-Pantas pada Pilkada Kota Sibolga Tahun 2024

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the involvement of the Purba Clan Association in supporting and securing the victory of the candidate pair Akhmad Syukri Nazry Penarik and Pantas Maruba Lumbantobing (Syukri–Pantas) in the 2024 mayoral election in Sibolga. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research explores how clan-based cultural identity is mobilized as a form of local political power. The Purba clan association does not only function as a social and kinship-based organization but also acts as a political actor that mobilizes electoral support through customary networks, informal political communication, and ethnic solidarity. The findings indicate that the support from the Purba clan played a significant role in the electoral success of Syukri–Pantas, characterized by the use of cultural symbolism, genealogical ties, and community-based campaign strategies. These findings suggest that traditional social structures like clans continue to hold substantial influence over local political dynamics and provide insight into how cultural values shape electoral democracy.
