The Relationship Between Oral Health Knowledge and Behavior with the Dental Caries Experience Among 12-Year-Old Students at Yayasan Pendidikan Shafiyyatul Amaliah Medan, Indonesia and King’s International School, Seremban, Malaysia X + 92 pages Oral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being. Improving oral health knowledge and behaviors from childhood plays a significant role in reducing the risk of dental caries. The age of 12 is a crucial developmental stage during which positive habits are established, and it serves as a global indicator by the WHO for dental disease monitoring. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between oral health knowledge and behaviors with the dental caries experience among 12-year-old students at two international schools: Yayasan Pendidikan Shafiyyatul Amaliah (YPSA) in Medan, Indonesia, and King’s International School (KIS) in Seremban, Malaysia. This research is an analytical study with a cross- sectional design, using total sampling of 101 respondents (50 from YPSA and 51 from KIS). Data were collected through oral health knowledge and behavior questionnaires, and caries examinations (DMF-T) from WHO were conducted. The data were analyzed using Spearman correlation tests. The results showed that most students in both schools had good levels of oral health knowledge and behavior. The DMF-T were low in both schools. Correlation test results showed a significant relationship between oral health knowledge and behavior with dental caries experience in YPSA and KIS, with a significance p value 0,001 (p < 0,05) and r- correlation 0,6. In conclusion, the higher the of knowledge and oral health behaviors, the lower the caries experience. References: 79 (2003–2023)en_US
