Implementation of The Internet of Things in Automatic Trash Can with A Plastic Bottle Waste Separation System Using Loadcell Sensors
Abstract
The increasing issue of plastic waste management requires innovative solutions to minimize its negative environmental impact. This study develops an automatic trash bin system integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT), capable of separating plastic bottles based on weight using Load Cell sensors. The system is built using an ESP32 microcontroller connected to load sensors, a servo motor, and an LCD display to support the automatic classification process. The focus is on separating 330 ml and 600 ml plastic bottles based on their weight. The system is also integrated with the Blynk application, enabling real-time monitoring of the trash bin’s weight and sending notifications when the bin reaches full capacity. Testing results show that the system achieves an accuracy level above 98% in measuring the weight of plastic bottles and correctly directing them to the appropriate bin. With this reliability, the tool has the potential to be implemented in public facilities as an educational and practical solution for plastic waste management. This innovation is expected to raise public awareness about the importance of effective waste sorting and recycling.
