This research is titled A Reception Study of Instagram Followers of @PSSI on the Dismissal of Shin Tae Yong by the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI). The objective of this study is to examine how followers of the Instagram account @PSSI interpret the post concerning the dismissal of the Indonesian national football team coach, Shin Tae Yong, by PSSI. The study employs a qualitative approach using Stuart Hall’s reception theory, which classifies audience interpretations into three positions: dominant hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional. Data were collected through interviews with five main informants and one triangulation informant, selected using purposive sampling. The results show that none of the informants occupy the dominant hegemonic position. Four informants namely the first, second, third, and fifth are positioned within the negotiated category, where they partially accept the message conveyed by PSSI but still criticize aspects such as the timing of the dismissal, the lack of transparency, and the insufficient recognition of Shin Tae Yong’s contributions. One informant the fourth represents the oppositional position, rejecting the message entirely and interpreting it as an act of injustice and a failure on the part of PSSI to acknowledge the coach’s efforts and achievements. Differences in interpretation are influenced by the informants’ experiences with football and the Indonesian national team, exposure to alternative media, perceptions of PSSI, and emotional factors such as disappointment, affection, and the national team's achievements during Shin Tae Yong's tenure as head coach.
