Arsitektur Istano Basa Pagaruyung Sebagai Cerminan Identitas Budaya Masyarakat Minangkabau

Abstract

This study aims to examine Istano Baso Pagaruyung as a representation of the identity of the Minangkabau people. Traditional Minangkabau architecture, which is reflected in the spatial layout and ornaments of the Baso Pagaruyung Palace, not only functions as a physical space but also contains cultural values, life philosophies, and social systems of its people. Through a qualitative research method with a case study approach, this study analyzes the building form, ornaments, and spatial layout of the Baso Pagaruyung Palace to identify how to reflect the principles of custom, matrilineal kinship, and local wisdom that are characteristic of the Minangkabau identity. The results of the study are expected to provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between traditional architecture and the formation of cultural identity, as well as the importance of preserving architectural heritage as a guardian of collective memory and the identity of a society.
