    Abstract
    This research analyzes the use of dysphemism in the movie Promising Young Woman. This study aims to find the types and functions of dysphemism in the movie, by using Allan and Burridge theory. This research is conducted through the qualitative descriptive method. The data of this research are the dysphemistic words and phrases used in the movie. The source data are the dialogues in the movie and transcript. In order to determine the types and functions of dysphemism in the Promising Young Woman movie, the data was analyzed using the dysphemism theory. The result of this research shows that there are 129 data of dysphemism used by the characters in the movie. There are five types of dysphemism found in the movie, i.e. dysphemistic epithets, -IST dysphemism, profanity, taboo words of bodily functions and sexual activity, and euphemistic dysphemism. There are 71 data of taboo words of bodily functions and sexual activity, 32 data of profanity, 17 data of dysphemistic epithets, 7 data of euphemistic dysphemism, and 2 data of -IST dysphemism. There are six functions of dysphemism found in the movie, namely to show astonishment or excitement, to emphasize something or situations, to represent a horrible thing, to humiliate, to show anger or rage, and to show closeness or intimacy. There are 42 data to show astonishment or excitement, 37 data to emphasize something or situations, 21 data to represent a horrible thing, 13 data to humiliate, 13 data to show anger or rage, and 3 data to show closeness or intimacy.
