dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the influence of globalization on local organizations in
Lingkar Tuk-tuk, a culturally rich area within the Simanindo Subdistrict of
Samosir Regency. It focuses on how various community actors—ranging from
government representatives and traditional leaders to both older and younger
generations—respond to the challenges and opportunities brought about by
globalization. The research particularly examines efforts to mitigate its negative
impacts on social, cultural, and economic life.
Adopting a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach, the study is
grounded in the globalization theories of Anthony Giddens and Thomas L.
Friedman. These frameworks provide the conceptual lens through which the
dynamics of local adaptation and resistance are analyzed. Data were collected
through in-depth observation, purposive informant selection, literature review,
interviews, and documentation.
Findings reveal that globalization has produced both constructive and detrimental
effects on the local community. However, the study also uncovers a lack of
coordinated strategies to manage these changes effectively. Miscommunication
among stakeholders has often led to unintended consequences, particularly those
that erode local values and traditions.
This research aspires to serve as a reference for policymakers, community leaders,
and cultural advocates in developing more inclusive and responsive strategies to
harness the benefits of globalization while safeguarding local identity. It
underscores the vital role of local organizations as custodians of regional heritage
and as key agents in sustaining the social and cultural fabric of the community. | en_US |
