    Abstract
The synthesis of butyl decanoate from esterification reaction of decanoic acid and butanol using microwave radiation with lipase enzyme as catalyst has been conducted. The parameters investigated in this study were the effect of lipase enzyme catalyst weight and mole ratio of decanoic acid to butanol. The conversion of butyl decanoate was determined by alkalimetric titration. The functional group changes in the resulting butyl decanoate were analyzed using FT-IR and the formation of butyl decanoate was confirmed by GC-MS. The maximum conversion of butyl decanoate for lipase enzyme catalyst weight parameters was 97,36±0,85% obtained at 1% catalyst weight, 1:3 mole ratio, 1 minute reaction time, and 20% microwave power. For the mole ratio parameter, the maximum conversion of 98,50±0,24% was obtained at a mole ratio of 1:2, 1% catalyst weight, 1 minute reaction time, and 20% microwave power. The formation of the ester group in butyl decanoate was indicated by the appearance of an absorption peak at the wavenumber of 1714,58 cm-1, corresponding to the stretching vibration of the carbonyl group (C=O), which is characteristic of esters. This was further supported by the presence of a stretching vibration C-O-C group at 1211,81-1028,75 cm-1. Based on GC-MS analysis, the ion peak at m/z 228 indicates the molecular weight of butyl decanoate and the base peak at m/z 56.
