dc.description.abstract | This thesis is entitled “ The correlation between Attitude towards English and Learning Achievement : A Case Study of English Students”. This research was focused on the students’ attitude, students’ learning achievement and correlation between attitude and learning achievement. The objectives of the study were: (1). to find out the students’ attitude towards English (2). to find out the students’ English learning achievement and (3). to find out whether there is or not a correlation between students’ attitude and their English learning achievement. The quantitative research was used to obtain the significance of the relationship between the two variables i.e students’ attitude toward English and the students’ learning achievement in English. The population of this study was English Department Students of the 2015 consisting of 101 students . The number of sample was 30 students which was drawn using random sampling. The methods of data collection were questionnaire and English test. Techniques of data analysis was by calculating the correlation coefficient through SPSS 22.0. The result of this study showed the average score obtained from attitude was 45 and the average score obtained from the English was 57. Based on the analysis of data through calculation by SPSS 22.0 for Pearson Product Moment analysis showed that the correlation coefficient of this case was positive 0.215 and significant (2-tailed) value was 0.254. The correlation coefficient of this case was positive 0.215. It means that the variable between attitude and English learning achievement was positive. Based on the interval correlation according to Anas Sudijono (2015:193) it showed that correlation coefficient 0,215 was in the interval (0,20 - 0,40) which means that the correlation was low. The significance (2-tailed) value was 0.254. Test of significance when Sig > 0,05 , (0,254> 0,05) then the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. It was concluded that there is no significant correlation between students’ positive attitude and their English achievement for students of English Department of USU. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Skripsi yang berjudul “The correlation between Attitude towards English and Learning Achievement : A Case Study of English Students”. Penelitian ini berfokus kepada sikap mahasiswa, prestasi belajar mahasiswa dan adakah korelasi antara sikap dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk menemukan sikap mahasiswa terhadap Bahasa Inggris (2) untuk menemukan prestasi belajar mahasiswa terhadap bahasa inggris (3) untuk menemukan apakah ada korelasi antara sikap dan prestasi belajar bahasa inggris. Metode kuantitatif digunakan untuk menemukan adanya korelasi antar dua variabel yaitu sikap mahasiswa dan prestasi belajar siswa. Jumlah populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa stambuk 2015 yang terdiri dari 110 mahasiswa. Jumlah sampel penelitian adalah 30 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara acak. Metode pengambilan data adalah melalui kuesioner dan tes bahasa inggris. Teknik perhitungan skor menggunakan SPPSS 22.0 yaitu Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan skor rata – rata dari sikap mahasiswa adalah 45 dan skor rata – rata dari prestasi belajar adalah 57. Dari perhitungan diperoleh hasil koefisien korelasi r = +0.215 dan nilai signifikan (dua arah) sig = 0.254 yang menunjukkan bahwa nilai koefisien korelasi pada kasus ini adalah +0.215 berarti hubungan antara kedua variabel adalah positif. Berdasarkan interval menurut Anas Sudijono (2015 : 193) menunjukan bahwa nilai koefisien korelasi terdapat pada interval (0,20 - 0,40) yang berarti korelasinya rendah. Nilai signifikan yaitu 0.254 , menurut tes signifikan ketika Sig > 0,05, (0,254 > 0,05) berarti null hipotesis diterima yang artinya bahwa tidak ada korelasi yang signifikan antara sikap mahasiswa dan prestasi belajar mahasiswa Departemen Bahasa Inggris. | en_US |
