The Influence of Stress Coping, Time Management, and Social Support on Academic Procrastination of Students in the Timely Completion of Studies among Undergraduate Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Sumatera Utara
Abstract
The era of Society 5.0 and the education revolution 5.0 require students to master various digital competencies and soft skills, but this often triggers pressure that leads to academic procrastination. This phenomenon has caused delays in the timely completion of studies, as has occurred at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU). A preliminary survey revealed high levels of procrastination, as well as low levels of Coping Stress, Time Management, and Social Support. This study was conducted to determine the influence of these three factors on academic procrastination among students. This is an associative quantitative study using primary data. The data used in this study were processed and obtained from a questionnaire administered to 80 respondents in the field. The analysis methods employed were descriptive statistical analysis and multiple linear regression. The population of this study was 404 graduating students of the FEB USU in 2024 who were recorded as not graduating on time. The results of this study indicate that simultaneously, Coping Stress, Time Management, and Social Support have a negative and significant effect on Academic Procrastination among graduating students of the FEB USU in 2024 who were recorded as not graduating on time. Partially, the Coping Stress variable has a negative and significant effect on Academic Procrastination, the Time Management variable has a negative and significant effect on Academic Procrastination, and the Social Support variable has a negative and significant effect on Academic Procrastination among 2024 FEB USU graduates who were recorded as not graduating on time.
