The research design was quasi-experimental non equivalent control group design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The sample size was 66 respondents. Data analysis using dependent t test and independent t test for knowledge and self-care management variables. Treatment adherence variables using Wilcoxon and Man-Whitney tests. The results of data analysis show that there was an effect of the IMB Skills Model on knowledge, self-care management, pre and post test medication adherence in the intervention and control groups with a p value <0.05. The statistical test results also showed that there was a difference in the effect of the intervention between the intervention and control groups with a p value <0.05. This study proves that the IMB Skills Model is effective in improving knowledge, self-care management and medication adherence of diabetes mellitus patients. Therefor, it is recommended that this model can be applied in providing nursing care to patients with diabetes mellitus.
