dc.description.abstract | This study analisys the meaning of food based on the go-shiki (five-color) principle and its role in building social relationships in the anime Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi by Michiko Yokote. The objective of this research is to describe the symbolic meaning of food through the go-shiki concept and to examine how food serves as a medium in forming social bonds among characters. The method employed is descriptive qualitative, using data such as visual food scenes, activities influenced by food, and selected dialogues from the anime. This study adopts the semiotic theory of Ferdinand de Saussure, the functional theory of Bronislaw Malinowski, and food anthropology of Koentjaraningrat as its theoretical foundation. The findings reveal that the go-shiki principle embedded in the anime’s food visuals contains profound meanings where red, yellow, green, white, and black represent passion, warmth, freshness, purity, balance, and depth of flavor. These colors enrich not only the visual aesthetics but also express the cultural values and philosophy of harmony upheld in Japanese culture. Furthermore, the function of food in the anime reflects Japanese spirituality through offerings to deities, social relationships through shared meals. Thus, food in Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi is not merely a source of nutrition, but also a cultural symbol, a form of spirituality, and a medium of social connection among characters. | en_US |
