This study aims to analyze the translation strategies used in the Malay version of the novel Laskar Pelangi, translated by Saadiah Ali, by applying the theory of translation strategies. The three strategies examined in this study are addition, subtraction, and transposition. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method by comparing the Indonesian and Malay versions of the novel Laskar Pelangi. The data were collected through an analysis of words, phrases, and sentences in both versions of the novel. The results show that there are 38 instances of the addition strategy, with the highest concentration found in Subchapter 1, comprising 9 instances. This strategy is used to enhance meaning, clarify situations, create dramatic and emotional effects, adjust cultural and social contexts in the target language, and expand the information presented. The subtraction strategy was found in 36 instances, most notably in Subchapters 2 and 6, each with 9 instances. This strategy was applied to simplify information without omitting the core meaning of the text. Meanwhile, the transposition strategy appeared in 18 instances, with the highest occurrence in Subchapter 2 (7 instances). This strategy was used to adjust grammatical structures in the target language without compromising the original meaning in the source language. Thus, the application of these three strategies demonstrates how the translator engaged in linguistic and cultural adaptation to ensure the text could be effectively received by readers in the target language.
