Abstract
Dyspepsia is a syndrome or a collection of symptoms or complaints characterized by pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen, accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, burning, abdominal fullness, bloating, decreased appetite, and belching. The incidence of dyspepsia in the world reaches 15-40% of the total population. The prevalence of dyspepsia in Indonesia is 11,3%, in North Sumatra it is 6,7%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity and diet with the incidence of dyspepsia in patients at the Hajj General Hospital Medan in 2025.This study is an analytic
study with a cross sectional design. The research location was at the Haji General Hospital Medan in April-June 2025. The study sample amounted to 111 people and was taken by accidental sampling. Data were collected by interview using a questionnaire, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square statistical test. The results showed that there were 53,2% of respondents who experienced dyspepsia. Statistical test results obtained that there is a relationship between physical activity (p-value=0,001) and diet pattern (p-value=0,013) with the incidence of dyspepsia in patients at the Hajj General Hospital Medan in 2025. Hospitals are expected to provide education to patients about factors related to and prevention of dyspepsia. The community is expected to pay attention to physical activity and diet based on the type of food, frequency of meal schedule, and eating habits. Future researchers are expected to examine other wide-scale variables with the incidence of dyspepsia.
