    Abstract
The Deli River is one of the main rivers that flows through the city of Medan. The development of industry and residential areas, along with pollution, is evident from the river’s brownish water, scattered piles of trash accumulating from the riverbanks to the river flow, and its visible shallowing. Currently, the water level monitoring system for rivers in Medan still relies on a manual method. The method used in this study is a quantitative approach with an experimental method. Data collection is conducted through the installation of IoT sensors. The purpose of this research is to continuously monitor the river’s discharge and water level to provide early warnings of potential floods. The main components of this system include a water flow sensor, an ultrasonic water level sensor, a microcontroller ESP8266, a communication module Wi-Fi, and an IoT platform Blynk. In a safe condition, the ultrasonic sensor measures a stable water level below 80 cm, with recorded values of 53 cm, 69 cm, and 73 cm, and a water discharge below 1.3 m³/s, with recorded values of 0.7 m³/s, 1.0 m³/s, and 1.3 m³/s. In an alert condition, the water level is measured at 84 cm, 86 cm, and 94 cm, with a discharge of 1.7 m³/s, 1.9 m³/s, and 2.4 m³/s. In a critical condition, the detected water level is measured at 116 cm, 128 cm, and 142 cm, with a water discharge reaching 3.0 m³/s, 3.7 m³/s, and 4.1 m³/s.
