This study aims to analyze the reasons behind President Donald Trump’s decision
to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement. This study is limited to
the period of Donald Trump’s administration from 2017 to 2021, with the main
focus on the withdrawal policy officially announced in 2020. The type of research
used in this study is qualitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques are
carried out through library research, namely library studies by reviewing various
sources of literature, official documents, scientific journals, and international
reports that are relevant to the research topic. The results of the study show that
Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement
was based on economic and political reasons. The Trump administration considered
the agreement to be a burden on the American economy and benefit developing
countries such as China and India. This decision aims to protect the domestic fossil
fuel industry and maintain global competitiveness. However, this policy has a
negative impact on America’s diplomatic position and adds to the burden on
developing countries in efforts to address climate change.
