    Abstract
Background: Dermatophytosis is one of the most common infectious diseases in humans. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), around 25% of the world's population experiences dermatophytosis. The immune response to dermatophytosis consists of innate immune responses and adaptive immune responses, in the form of humoral immune responses and cell-mediated immunity. Elimination of dermatophytosis is mediated by Th-1 immunity. In addition to Th-1, several newly developed theories suggest the role of Th-17 in eliminating dermatophytes. Th-17 cells secrete interleukin (IL)-17 which plays an important role in anti-fungal immunity. Aims: To analyze the correlation between IL-17 serum levels and dermatophytosis severity. Subjects and Methods: This study is an observational analysis study with a cross-sectional approach on 33 dermatophytosis subjects with consecutive sampling techniques and based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects were subjected to anamnesis, physical examination, dermatological examination, assessment of the severity of dermatophytosis by Dermatophytosis Severity Scale (DSS), and blood sampling to assess IL-17 levels with ELISA. The correlation between IL-17 levels and the severity of dermatophytosis was analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. Results: Dermatophytosis occurs most often in women (72.7%), at the age of 46–55 years (36.4%), with the most common clinical manifestations of dermatophytosis are mixed types (45.5%), and disease duration of 3,48 ± 2,74 weeks. Most of the patients experienced mild dermatophytosis severity (66.7%). The average level of IL-17 serum in dermatophytosis is 72.22 ± 46.35 ng/L. The results of this study indicate a positive correlation with moderate strength between IL-17 serum levels and dermatophytosis severity (p-value=0,021; r=0,401). Conclusions: There is a moderate correlation between IL-17 serum levels and the severity of dermatophytosis
