Background: Karonese traditional music is an essential part of the Karonese people's culture, carrying strong social, spiritual, and symbolic values. This form of music is not only a means of entertainment but also plays a vital role in preserving cultural identity, strengthening social bonds, and serving as a medium of artistic expression passed down through generations.
Objective: This study aims to describe the types of traditional musical instruments used in Karonese culture and to explain the functions of traditional music ensembles within the context of Karonese community life.
Method: This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through literature review from various written sources such as books, journals, online articles, as well as documentation and observation of traditional Karonese music ensemble practices.
Result: The results indicate that there are various traditional musical instruments such as Gendang Lima Sedalanen, Kulcapi, Serune, Gung, and others. The functions of Karonese traditional music include ritual ceremonies, entertainment, and artistic expression, all of which reinforce kinship values and act as a form of spiritual communication within the community.
Conclusion: Karonese traditional music is a rich cultural heritage filled with social and spiritual meaning. Therefore, preserving this traditional music is essential to ensure that the ancestral values remain alive and relevant for future generations amidst modernization and globalization.
