This final project discusses irezumi, a traditional Japanese tattoo art that has a long history and deep symbolic meaning in the lives of Japanese people. The main focus of this writing is to understand the development of irezumi from time to time, explore the meaning of each motif used, and explain the traditional tebori process and techniques used in making it. The method used is a descriptive method by relying on written sources such as relevant books and articles. The results of the discussion show that motifs such as dragons, cherry blossoms, and tigers depict values such as courage, honor, and beauty. Although still often associated with the yakuza group and causing negative views in society, irezumi is still seen as a unique form of body art and an important part of Japanese culture.
