AISI 1045 steel is widely used in various industries for gears, connecting rods, and especially shafts in motor vehicles. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) is a welding technique classified as an arc welding process that uses gas and flux. This research focuses on analyzing SMAW welded joints in AISI 1045 steel material. The objective of this study is to determine the tensile strength, hardness, and microstructure of welded AISI 1045 steel joints with V-groove and U-groove variations using the SMAW method. The materials used in this research are AISI 1045 steel and E6013 electrodes. The highest tensile strength was found in welds with the V-groove variation, measuring 546.87 N/mm2, while the lowest was the U-groove variation at 544.14 N/mm2. Conversely, the highest elongation was achieved by the U-groove at 21.05%, and the lowest was the V-groove variation at 17.87%. Regarding hardness, the U-groove welding consistently showed the highest hardness values, both individually and when averaged, making it the superior choice for hardness. The lowest hardness was observed in the V-groove variation. The microstructure was not affected because the same electrode was used, which did not influence the micro-test results.
