dc.description.abstractThis research investigates the performance of a generator-set internal combustion engine fueled with hydrogen-rich syngas derived from biomass waste. The syngas was produced through slow pyrolysis of palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) and upgraded via Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) to enhance hydrogen concentration. The experimental setup was designed to evaluate the engine under varying electrical loads, analyzing specific fuel consumption (SFC), thermal efficiency, and exhaust gas emissions (CO, CO₂, HC, O₂). Results indicate that hydrogen-enriched syngas improves fuel efficiency and thermal performance, particularly at moderate loads, and significantly reduces pollutant emissions compared to conventional LPG fuel. The study demonstrates the technical viability of utilizing biomass-derived syngas in small scale distributed power generation, offering a cleaner alternative to fossil-based fuels and supporting the development of sustainable energy systems.en_US
