Speed Measuring Device (Speedmeter) With Arduino UNO and Infrared (IR) Sensor
Abstract
Advances in sensor and microcontroller technology have driven innovation in the creation of simple, cost-effective, and accurate measuring instruments. One such application is an infrared sensor-based speed measurement system. This research aims to design and test an object speed measuring device using two infrared sensors connected to an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The device's operating principle is based on measuring the time required for an object to pass two points separated by a certain distance. Testing was conducted by comparing the device's measurements with a stopwatch, a conventional measuring instrument. The experimental results showed that this device is capable of measuring object speed with a fairly high degree of accuracy. Several tests showed an average error rate of 2.85 seconds compared to a stopwatch. With this low error, this device has proven suitable for use as an alternative simple speed measuring instrument, especially in educational activities and laboratory experiments.
