Solar Collector Dryer with Parabolic Reflektor Type
Abstract
The demand for coffee in Indonesia is increasing, this happens due to
changes in consumption behavior by the public. Behind the large demand for the
coffee, the obstacle that is currently experienced is the coffee production process,
especially in post-harvest handling, namely drying. In some coffee-producing areas
in Indonesia, the climate is not good,so the coffee drying processis often hampered.
To reduce losses due to inhibition of the drying process, in this study a drying device
was designed and made, with the optimization of heat sources from the sun. This
dryer uses a solar collector with a parabolic type reflector where the collector will
capture the heat reflected and focused by the parabolic reflector, then the heat
collected on the collector will be transmitted by the wind coming from the fan into
the box dryer. The use of this tool is able to speed up the coffee drying process with
a total time of 14 hours for coffee to be dried by reaching less than 12.5%. Coffee
beans from drying using this tool have a more uniform color and minimal damage
to the coffee beans after drying.
