Textual Analysis and Presentation of Sunday School Songs in the Implementation of Asmika (Catholic Sunday School Children) Worship at the Catholic Church Santo Yosep Station, Johor Building, Medan
Abstract
Worship in the Catholic Church, especially for ASMIKA (Catholic Sunday School Children), is seen as a fundamental, primary, and most important activity in the Catholic Church. This study aims to describe the worship system of ASMIKA Catholic Church Station Saint Joseph Building Johor, the textual meaning of liturgical chants and analyze the melodic structure of ASMIKA chants Station Saint Joseph during Sunday worship where the location of this research is located at Jl. Karya Wisata No. 6 Medan Johor. In this paper the author uses two main theories, namely semiotics to analyze the text and William P. Malm's weighted scale theory to examine the melody. The method used by the author is a qualitative method. The results obtained show that, the chants in the ASMIKA Catholic Church service of Santi Santo Joseph Building Johor cannot be separated during the service and the textual meaning contained in the chants have their own meaning, both used for messages, praise and remembering events of certain days. The melodic contours used are pendulous, static, and ascending.
