Drug abuse is still a common concern in Indonesia, especially among adolescents.
North Sumatra Province is the province with the highest drug vulnerability in
Indonesia, with Medan City as the capital of North Sumatra Province, which is
classified as a drug-prone area. One of the Urban Villages in Medan City, classified
as a Drug Prone Area, is Tanjung Mulia Hilir Urban Village. This study aims to
analyze the factors associated with the risk of drug abuse among adolescents in
Drug-Prone Area of Tanjung Mulia Hilir Urban Village. This type of research
employs a quantitative, descriptive-analytic research design with a cross-sectional
approach. The population of this study consisted of all adolescents in 14 drug-prone
neighbourhoods, totaling 2,267 people. The sample size was determined using the
Taro Yamane formula, resulting in 96 samples selected through the simple random
sampling method. The data was collected through interviews using a questionnaire.
Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The
results of the study indicate that out of 7 variables, 4 variables were found to be
associated with the risk of drug abuse, namely knowledge (p-value = 0.001), self
efficacy (p-value = 0,003), peer influence (p-value = 0,001), and ease of access to
drugs (p-value = 0,043). In comparison, 3 variables did not show a relationship
with the risk of drug abuse, namely gender(p-value = 0,811), attitude (p-value =
0,240), and parental role (p-value = 0,353). Through this research, it is hoped that
adolescents can increase their knowledge, have a good attitude, and have self
efficacy as an effort to prevent drug abuse.
