This study aims to analyze the influence of self-esteem and religiosity on academic motivation among Batak ethnic university students. A quantitative approach was employed, with data collected using Likert-scale instruments: the Indonesian version of the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) consisting of 29 items, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) consisting of 9 items, and the 4 Basic Dimensions of Religiosity Scale (4-BDRS) consisting of 12 items. The participants were 1,128 active Batak university students from 252 higher education institutions across Indonesia. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The collected data were analyzed using a parametric technique, namely multiple regression analysis. The results showed that self-esteem and religiosity simultaneously had a significant effect on academic motivation (p < 0.001), contributing 20.9% to the overall variance. Partially, both self-esteem and religiosity were found to have a significant effect (p < 0.001) on academic motivation, with religiosity emerging as the dominant predictor, contributing an effective value of 10.74%.
