| dc.description.abstract | Sorghum is a highly potential crop that can be developed as an alternative source for food, feed, and industrial needs. To meet these demands, efforts to increase production are necessary, one of which is through optimizing plant population and varietal selection. This study aimed to examine the effects of planting spacing and sorghum varieties on the growth and yield of sorghum. The research was conducted in an open field located on Harmonika Baru Street, Padang Bulan Selayang II, Medan Selayang District, at an altitude of approximately 25 meters above sea level, from April to August 2024. A factorial randomized block design (RBD) was employed, consisting of two factors and three replications. The first factor was the variety (Numbu and Bioguma 1), and the second factor was planting spacing (10 × 70 cm, 20 × 70 cm, and 30 × 70 cm). The results showed that the use of the Bioguma 1 variety or a planting spacing of 30 × 70 cm resulted in the highest values for plant height, stem diameter, days to flowering, seed weight per sample, fresh biomass weight, dry biomass weight, fresh root weight, and dry root weight. The interaction between sorghum varieties and planting spacing did not have a significant effect on any of the observed parameters. | en_US |
