Analysis Of Optimizing Teacher Certification Competencies In Improving Education Quality At MIS Nur Al-Amin Medan
Abstract
The low level of teacher certification competence is one of the main challenges in the field of education, affecting the quality of learning and student outcomes. One educational institution facing this issue is MIS Nur Al-Amin Medan, where several teachers do not yet possess adequate certification to support their professionalism in teaching. In response to this problem, a comprehensive strategy is needed to improve teacher competence by identifying internal and external factors that influence the teacher certification process. One commonly used strategy to analyze these factors is the SWOT analysis. The aim of this study is to analyze the internal and external factors affecting the improvement of teacher certification competence at MIS Nur Al-Amin Medan and to formulate strategies for improvement using a SWOT analysis approach. This study uses a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The results show that the teacher certification process at MIS Nur Al-Amin Medan is still not optimal, with internal weaknesses such as most teachers not yet having teaching certificates, not having participated in PLPG/PPG, lack of information about certification procedures, unpreparedness to undergo the process, and internal training materials not meeting actual needs. Meanwhile, external threats include government policies on certification and its deadlines, limited cooperation with teacher training institutions (LPTKs), unstructured external training programs, and school committee encouragement that is not yet supported by technical assistance. Based on the SWOT analysis, which places the school in quadrant III, the appropriate strategy is the Weakness-Threats (W-T) strategy, namely through strengthening the head of school’s support, internal training, socialization, and facilitation from the Ministry of Religious Affairs so that the certification process becomes more effective and structured.
