    Abstract
The base is the part of the denture to which the denture elements are attached, receiving functional forces from occlusion and transferring functional forces to support the oral cavity structure. Acrylic resin is a frequently used material for denture bases. Acrylic resin was developed in the 1930s and first used in dentistry in the 1940s. HeatPolymerized Acrylic Resin (RAPP) is the most widely used acrylic resin for denture bases due to its several advantages. However, RAPP denture bases also have disadvantages, such as poor mechanical properties due to long-term denture wear, one of which is impact strength. Impact strength can be increased by the addition of chitosan nanogel, which is biocompatible and biodegradable, non-toxic, and nonallergenic. Chitosan nanogel has a greater surface area-to-volume ratio compared to similar materials in bulk, making it more reactive. This study aims to determine the effect of adding 1% and 1.25% chitosan nano gel to the denture base material of heat polymerized acrylic resin on impact strength. The research design used in this study is a laboratory experiment that aims to determine the effects that arise due to the provision of certain treatments. The design of this study is a post-test-only control group design. The research sample was a rectangular heat polymerized acrylic resin with dimensions of 60 mm x 6 mm x 4 mm according to ISO 20795-1 specifications. The samples were divided into 3 groups, each group consisting of 10 samples. Impact strength was measured using a Charpy tester. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test with a p value = 0.001 (p < 0.05). The results showed that there was an effect of adding 1% and 1.25% chitosan nano gel to the denture base material of heat polymerized acrylic resin on impact strength. The LSD test then showed no significant difference between the addition of 1% and 1.25% chitosan nanogel on impact strength with a p value of 0.092 (p > 0.05). Based on the results of the research that has been conducted on the effect of the addition of 1% and 1.25% chitosan nanogel to RAPP denture base material on impact strength, it can be concluded that the impact strength of RAPP denture base material with the addition of 1% chitosan nanogel produces a higher value compared to the addition of 1.25% chitosan nanogel to RAPP denture base material and there is no difference between the addition of 1% and 1.25% chitosan nanogel.
