Abstract
Child abuse and neglect (CAN) is an act of violence or misconduct against a child, in the form of physical, emotional, or sexual, neglect of care, and exploitation for commercial gain, whether actual or implied, that can endanger their health, survival, dignity, or development. Dentists are in ideal position to detect signs of child abuse because 50% to 75% of all child abuse cases include trauma to the mouth, face, and head. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of dentists regarding CAN in dental practices in Medan. This study was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted by distributing an online questionnaire in a Google Form to dentists in Medan. The study found that 332 dentists completed a questionnaire. The study concluded that dentists in Medan City dental practices had adequate knowledge, good attitudes, and poor experiences regarding CAN.
