    Abstract
Xerostomia is a subjective complaint of dry mouth usually caused by a decrease in saliva flow rate. Dry mouth due to salivary gland dysfunction can affect oral function and overall health, which in turn can lead to a decline in quality of life. This study aims to determine the effect of xerostomia on oral health and quality of life among elderly women at Rasyida Kidney Hospital in Medan. This is an analytical survey using a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 38 individuals who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Accidental sampling was used. Data collection was conducted through direct interviews using the GRIX and OHIP-14 questionnaires. The categories of xerostomia used in this study were no xerostomia, mild xerostomia, moderate xerostomia, and severe xerostomia, while oral health-related quality of life was determined from the total score obtained for each sample, which indicated that the higher the OHIP-14 score, the poorer the oral health-related quality of life. The data were analyzed univariately and bivariately. Based on the results of the study, there was a significant difference in xerostomia on oral health-related quality of life according to the OHIP-14 functional limitation dimension (p=0.010), physical pain dimension (p=0.011), psychological discomfort dimension (p=0.009), physical disability dimension (p=0.001), psychological disability dimension (p=0.038), and social disability dimension (p=0.042). while the disability dimension showed no significant difference between xerostomia and oral health related to quality of life (p=0.116). The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant effect of xerostomia on oral health related to quality of life in elderly women at the Rasyida Kidney Hospital in Medan.
