    Abstract
Dental caries is the most common oral pathology, affecting a large portion of the world's population. The development of caries can be prevented with restorative dental treatment. Before performing a restoration, the cavity must be cleaned of residual bacteria and the smear layer. Chlorhexidine digluconate 2% is the "gold standard" cavity cleanser. However, chlorhexidine digluconate 2% has the lack of not completely removing the smear layer. The remaining smear layer in the cavity will affect the tensile bond strength of the restorative material. Therefore, an alternative cavity cleanser, ethanol extract of the fruit lerak , has been developed, which has been widely tested for its antibacterial and cleansing effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of the fruit lerak (Sapindus rarak DC) on tensile bond strength and to determine the difference in the tensile bond strength of composite resin between the cavity cleanser containing ethanol extract of the fruit lerak (Sapindus rarak DC) and chlorhexidine digluconate 2%. This study was a laboratory experiment with a post-test only control group design, involving 27 tooth samples. 1 kg of fruit lerak was extracted with 70% ethanol until a thick extract was obtained. The first group of tooth samples was given 0.01% ethanol extract of fruit Lerak, the second group received 3.125% ethanol extract of fruit lerak, and the third group received 2% chlorhexidine digluconate cavity cleanser. Each sample was treated with the appropriate cavity cleanser, then bonding material was applied, placed in a mold, filled with composite resin, and cured for 20 seconds. The difference in effect was tested using a tensile bond strength test using a universal testing machine. The average bond strength was The tensile strengths in groups 1 (ethanol extract of fruit Lerak at a concentration of 0.01%), 2 (ethanol extract of fruit Lerak at a concentration of 3.125%), and 3 (chlorhexidine digluconate at a concentration of 2%) were 4.888±0.51 MPa, 7.348±0.39 MPa, and 9.592±0.78 MPa, respectively. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the 0.1% and 3.125% Lerak extract groups and 2% chlorhexidine based on the results of a oneway ANOVA (p<0.05) in the form of a decrease in tensile bond strength when soapberry is used as a cavity cleanser.
