Elementary school students’ reading interest in Indonesia remains relatively low, as shown by the PISA report published by the OECD, which ranks Indonesia 69th out of 81 countries in terms of literacy. One medium that can be used to support literacy activities is leveled books, which are non-textbook reading materials designed to suit the needs and reading abilities of students. This study aims to determine whether leveled books have a role in influencing the reading interest of upper-grade elementary school students in Binjai City. The research employed purposive sampling involving 161 students. The instruments used in this study included a leveled book assessment rubric and a reading interest scale based on the theory of Schunk, Meece, and Pintrich (2014). The results showed that the leveled books met the standards for level B3. A total of 94.41% of students demonstrated a high level of reading interest, while 5.59% showed low interest. However, hypothesis testing revealed no significant role of leveled books in influencing students’ reading interest (p = 0.436 > 0.05).en_US
