Plastic waste ranks second as the most produced waste in Indonesia after food waste. Medan city has a target of 100% waste managing by 2025, which includes a 30% reduction and 70% management. Households are the producers of plastic waste, where the role of housewives is very important in managing plastic waste produced. Plastic waste is extremely difficult to decompose and has a significant impact on the environment. This study aims to analyse reduction and management actions for plastic waste among housewives in Padang Bulan Village, Medan Baru Sub-district. The study design is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. The study population consists of 2.078 housewives, with a sample size of 95 individuals using slovin formula. Data were analysed, both univariately and bivariately. The results showed that 46,3% of housewives were aged between 48-59 years, 73,7% had a secondary education, 56,8% were not employed (housewives), 71,6% of families had low incomes, 57,9% had good knowledge about reduction and management, and 86,3% housewives' attitudes towards reduction and management were in the positive category. Type of plastic waste was dominated by polypropylene (PP) at 42,8% and the weight of plastic waste was 23.189 grams. Furthermore, 78,9% of housewives' reduction and handling actions were in the good category. The chi-square test results showed a significant association between educational level, occupation, family income, and housewives' knowledge with plastic waste reduction and management actions (p-value<0,05). However, there was no association between age and the attitudes of housewives toward plastic waste reduction and management (p-value>0,05). Recommendations: Housewives should provide separate waste bins according to type of waste, sorting waste, and reduce the use of plastic bags. The government should conduct public awareness campaigns regarding plastic waste and how to reduction and management it.en_US
