This study aims to determine the positive effect of nomophobia on social media addiction in late adolescents. Nomophobia is the fear of not being able to connect to a smartphone and is considered a modern phobia that has developed as a result of human interaction with information and communication technology, especially smartphone. Social media addiction is the behavior of excessive use of social media so that social media becomes the center of an individual's life which can interfere with their health, work, and social activities. The subjects of the study were 354 late adolescents aged 16-18 years (M = 16.4, SD = 0.49) in Medan City. Using the Nomophobia scale adapted by Batubara and Rangkuti (2024) and the Social Media Addiction scale adapted by Napitulu and Rangkuti (2023). The scale is given directly in the form of a Google Form. The research method uses quantitative correlation. The results showed a coefficient of determination value of R = 0,218 with a significance value of p < 0,001. These findings indicate that there is a significant positive effect between nomophobia and social media addiction in late adolescents and the level of influence is in the moderate category.
