This study aims to examine the differences in the level of social media addiction
between adolescents with Type D Personality and those with Non-Type D
Personality. This research employed a quantitative approach with a comparative
design. Data were collected through questionnaires using a Likert scale format. The
participants in this study consisted of 495 adolescents aged 13–18 years (M = 15,3,
SD = 1,3) who were active social media users in Medan City. Social media addiction
was measured using the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale developed by
Andreassen (2012), which was adapted into Indonesian by Napitupulu & Rangkuti
(2023). Type D Personality was measured using the Type D Personality Scale
developed by Denollet (2005), which was adapted into Indonesian by the
researcher. The collected data were analyzed using an Independent Sample T-Test.
The results indicated a significant difference in the level of social media addiction
between adolescents with Type D Personality and those with Non-Type D
Personality, with a significance value of p < 0,001 and an effect size (Cohen’s d) of
– 0,538.
