Analisis Hierarki Kebutuhan Tokoh Utama dalam Film Yolo Karya Jia Ling

Abstract

Movies as one of the forms of literature creation, play a crucial role as a reflection of human life by creatively conveying a message of humanity. Yolo is an instance of the literary work that highlights the main character's physiological dynamics, Du Leying, who experiences a variety of conflicts and emotional pressures. This study aims to: 1) describe the main character's hierarchy needs fulfilment in the Yolo movie; and 2) describe the factors that influence the main character's needs fulfilment in the Yolo movie. Additionally, this research utilized descriptive qualitative methods with Abraham Maslow’s humanistic needs approach. The findings showed that the main character's Du Leying needs had been fulfilled at five levels of Maslow's hierarchy: physiological, security, love and belonging, appreciation, and self-actualization. Several factors that influence the fulfillment include family, environment, and history. To conclude, Du Leying completely fulfilled her needs in achieving self-actualization as a professional female boxer. Even though she lost the boxing match, she successfully found and affirmed her identity.
