Proses Pembentukan Koalisi Antara Partai Gerindra dan Nasdem dalam Pencalonan Walikota Medan 2024

Abstract

The Gerindra and NasDem parties gave a letter of recommendation to Rico Waas-Zakiyuddin Harahap to advance in the 2024 Medan Mayoral Election. Determining the candidates to be nominated in the Medan mayoral election is a criterion desired by political parties. Political parties can find out what needs the community will want. Thus, Rico-Zaki have met the minimum requirements for political party support to advance in the Medan Mayoral Election. Gerindra itself has 6 seats in the Medan DPRD, while NasDem has 5 seats. Therefore, based on the background explanation, the author is interested in further researching the Coalition Formation Process Between the Gerindra and Nasdem Parties in the 2024 Medan Mayoral Nomination. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. The results of this study are that the leaders of the Nasdem and Gerindra parties in this case prefer to get the victory of the candidate pair for government positions with the consequence of ignoring their policy or ideological choices. In fact, the opportunity to form a coalition with partners in a similar ideology is quite available. Therefore, the formation of a coalition is solely to win the political battle. Thus, the coalition of parties in the Mayoral Election in Medan City is more similar to the turah coalition type (oversized coalition), namely a coalition that embraces all parties to join. The formation of this coalition certainly has supporting and inhibiting factors. The supporting factors are common political interests, the strength of the mass base, support from political figures, and strong funding. While the inhibiting factors are differences in ideology and political strategy, internal competition in candidate selection, competition with other parties, and local political dynamics.
