    Abstract
Cyclamate is an artificial sweetener usually used in powdered soft drinks which can cause health problems when consumed in high doses. This study aims to analyze the health complaints among public elementary school children after consuming powdered soft drinks and to analyze the cyclamate levels in these drinks. This study uses a descriptive research method. The sample consisted of 96 elementary school children selected through purposive sampling, and the research objects were 5 types of powdered soft drinks frequently consumed by elementary school children in Medan Baru district. Data were collected using questionnaires followed by sample testing through precipitation and gravimetry method. The data were analyzed univariately. The results showed that all samples contained cyclamate within the applicable threshold limits, with the highest level at 321 mg/kg and the lowest at 232 mg/kg. The behavior of elementary school children is that 86 children (89,6%) had poor knowledge, 60 children (62,5%) had poor attitude, and 65 children (67,7%) practiced good behavior. In terms of health complaints, 88 children (91,7%) reported experiencing health complaints after consuming powdered soft drinks with the most common complaints being cough, sore throat, and stomach ache, while 8 children (8,3%) did not report any complaints. It is hoped that schools, parents, and government agencies will contribute to educating children about the dangers of excessive consumption of artificial sweeteners. There is a need for ongoing education for elementary school-aged children about the importance of choosing healthy and nutritious foods and beverages.
