| dc.description.abstract | Circulation service is one of the main activities in a library, comprising the
processes of borrowing, returning, renewing, and managing library collections.
The circulation service activities at the University of Medan Area Library serve as
a direct channel of interaction between library users and librarians. The purpose of
this study is to examine the circulation service activities at the University of
Medan Area Library and to identify the issues or obstacles that hinder the
circulation process. This study employs a descriptive quantitative method, with
data collected through observation, interviews, literature review, and
documentation. The results of this study indicate that the circulation service
activities at the University of Medan Area Library include: Member Registration,
Borrowing, Renewal, Fine collection, Issuance of Clearance Letters, and
Statistical Reporting. Circulation services at the University of Medan Area
Library are conducted smoothly and in an orderly manner in accordance with the
library’s established regulations. However, an obstacle occurs during the
administrative process when the barcode scanner occasionally fails to read,
causing queues in the administrative process. The conclusion of this study states
that students who are officially registered as active students are automatically
registered as library members; book borrowing is limited to 5 titles with a loan
period of seven days; late returns incur a fine of 1,000 rupiahs per day; clearance
letters can be issued either online or offline; and the preparation of statistical
reports is carried out to evaluate circulation services and as a form of the
librarian’s accountability. Therefore, it is recommended that the circulation
services at the University of Medan Area Library regularly check the barcode
scanners used in circulation activities to facilitate and expedite the administrative
process involved in these services. | en_US |
