Women's leadership in student organizations reflects the state of gender equality in higher education. Although there are no formal restrictions preventing women from taking on leadership roles, in practice, many women still face various obstacles that hinder their access to strategic positions. These obstacles are not only external but also internally constructed and internalized through a long social process within the organizational environment. This study aims to understand how social construction influences women's involvement in attaining leadership positions, particularly in the Forum Mahasiswa Nias at Universitas Sumatera Utara (ForMaN-USU). Since its establishment in 2007, the organization has never been led by a woman, despite the absence of any formal rule prohibiting it. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method, using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that social constructions within the organization shape the way leadership is perceived typically associated with male figures linked to assertiveness, courage, and leadership competence. The low level of women's involvement in leadership roles is also influenced by their limited active participation in the organization. Other contributing factors include gender stereotypes in leadership, the influence of Nias patriarchal culture, restricted mobility, low self-confidence, and the lack of support from fellow female members within the organization.en_US
