dc.description.abstract | Background: Healing of burn wounds can be done with pharmacological therapy
with preparations containing anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, and antibacterial active
substances that can be formulated in the form of ointment. Moringa seed oil is rich
in fatty acids such as oleic acid, linoleic acid, and palmitoleic acid which are known
to have antibacterial activity and other active substances that are anti-inflammatory
so that they are effective in healing burns. To increase the effectiveness of burn
wound healing, Moringa seed oil ointment is combined with chitosan because it
contains anti-infective substances.
Objective: This study aims to formulate a combination ointment preparation of
moringa seed oil and chitosan and evaluate the physical quality and effectiveness
of ointment preparations in healing burn wounds in white male rats.
Methods: The research stages include formulation and evaluation of the physical
quality of the combined ointment of moringa seed oil and chitosan, and preclinical
tests on burns of male white rats. Formulated a combination ointment of moringa
seed oil and chitosan with a concentration of moringa seed oil, namely 1% (F1);
2% (F2); 3% (F3) and 0,2% chitosan. Evaluation of the physical quality included
organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, and stability at room
temperature for 12 weeks (including organoleptic, pH, and viscosity).
Results: The combined ointment of moringa seed oil and chitosan is semi-solid,
yellowish white in color, smells of ointment base, homogeneous, pH 6,04-6,38,
viscosity 25.453-33.700 cps, spreadability 5,03-6,56 cm, stable. Combination
ointment of Moringa seed oil 3% and chitosan 0,2% has the highest burn wound
healing with AUC 1074,22±74,83. Followed by MEBO® ointment with AUC
1053,34±69,10. The combination of moringa seed oil 2% and chitosan 0.2%
ointment with AUC 819,53±46,80. Furthermore, the ointment combination of
moringa seed oil 1% and chitosan 0,2% with an AUC 707,97 ± 169,68. The last
ointment base with an AUC 653,05±253,76.
Conclusion: The combined ointment of moringa seed oil and chitosan meets the
physical quality. The combined ointment of moringa seed oil and chitosan was able
to heal burns in white male rats, characterized by a significant difference (p < 0,05)
with ointment base (negative control). The combined ointment of moringa seed oil
3% and chitosan 0,2% is an ointment formula with the highest burn wound healing
effectiveness with an AUC value of 1074,22 ± 74,83. | en_US |
