The preliminary design of a furfural production plant from candlenut shells
using the SupraYield process has a production capacity of 330 tons/year with an
operating time of 330 days/year. This preliminary design consists of three stages:
raw material preparation, hydrolysis and dehydration, and purification. The
hydrolysis and dehydration reactions are carried out using 4 fluidized bed reactor
units operating at a temperature of 167°C with a residence time of 3.5 hours. The
amount of raw material required to meet the plant's annual production capacity is
238.33 kg/hour.
The furfural production plant is planned to be built in Deli Serdang
Regency, North Sumatra Province, with a total plant area of 6,380 m². The water
requirement for this plant will first be treated from the Buih River at 3,249.12
kg/hour. The planned organizational form of this furfural production plant is a
Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure and
a total of 100 employees.
The results of the economic analysis carried out in this preliminary design
are as follows:
1. Capital Investment (CI) = Rp106.416.844.358,37
2. Total Cost (TC) = Rp49.299.190.451,79
3. Profit Margin (PM) = 44,49%
4. Break Event Point (BEP) = 36,05%
5. Return On Investment (ROI) = 25,49%
6. Return On Network (RON) = 42,48%
7. Pay Out Time (POT) = 3,92 years
8. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) = 28,04%
Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the furfural
production plant from candlenut shells using the SupraYield process with a capacity
of 330 tons/year is feasible to establish.
