    Abstract
Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) is a major environmental health problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, and a common cause of death. In the Silau Laut puskemas working area, Asahan Regency, ARI cases reached 687, ranking first in the most common diseases, especially children under 9 years old. The physical environment of the house and behavioral factors are the main aspects that influence the occurrence of ARI. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the physical environment of the house and the behavior of the head of the family with environment-based diseases, especially ARI diseases at Silau Laut public health center, Asahan Regency. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional research design involving 100 respondents who were taken using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done through questionnaires as a primary data source. Data analysis methods were carried out using univariate and bivariate. The results showed that there was a relationship between ventilation p value=0.016 (p<0.05), humidity p value=0.010 (p<0.05), residential density p value= 0.033 (p<0.05), smoking in the house p value=0.014 (p<0.05), the habit of burning garbage p value=0.029 (p<0.05), the use of mosquito coils p value=0.023 (p<0.05). Meanwhile, there is no relationship between temperature p value=0.120 (p>0.05) and floor type p value=0.453 (p>0.05) with environment-based diseases, especially ARI. It is recommended for the community to maintain the condition of the home environment and avoid bad behavior of family members to reduce risk factors for ARI.
