    Abstract
Nurses' performance is one of the important indicators in ensuring the quality of healthcare services in hospitals. The quality of nursing care largely depends on nurses' performance, which is influenced by various factors within the work environment. In inpatient wards, nurses face high and diverse workloads that can potentially cause physical and mental pressure. Workload and work-related stres are two factors often associated with nurses’ performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between workload and work stres with the performance of inpatient nurses at the Regional Public Hospital (RSUD) of Padangsidimpuan City. This research employed a quantitative approach with an analytic cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of all nurses working in the surgical, internal medicine, and pediatric inpatient wards, totaling 34 nurses selected using a total sampling method. Workload was categorized based on the ward in which the nurses worked, while work stres and nurse performance were measured using questionnaires. The results of the study showed that all respondents experiencing moderate work stres had good performance (100%), while the majority of respondents with high work stres demonstrated poor performance (94.7 Statistical analysis could not be performed due to empty cells; however, descriptive results showed that higher levels of work stres tended to be associated with lower nurse performance, while workload based on inpatient rooms did not show a significant relationship with nurse performance (p-value = 0.819). It is recommended that nurses manage work-related stres effectively, and that Padangsidimpuan General Hospital adjust workload distribution and strengthen understanding of standard operating procedures (SOP).
