main character in the Princess Mononoke anime. The method used is qualitative
descriptive analysis with data in the form of scenes and transcripts of dialogues
between characters sourced from the anime Princess Mononoke in movie format. This research uses moral approach, sociology of literature, and bushido concept. The results showed that there is a major theme, namely the conflict between
humans and nature, supported by minor themes, namely humanity, love, and
identity. The main characters in this anime are Ashitaka and San, along with
several other characters. This anime has a place, time, and social setting and the
mandate contains the importance of maintaining a balance between humans and
nature in order to coexist peacefully. The moral value of bushido depicted in this
anime are reviewed based on behavior of the main characters, Ashitaka and San. One of the moral values of bushido is the courage of the main character Ashitaka
who dared to stop and fight Nago who wanted to attack Emishi Village. In
addition to the value of Yuu, the value of Rei which means politeness and respect
is also found in the main character San who despite the apes being rude and
disrespectful, San still speaks politely. Thus, the Princess Mononoke anime not
only provides entertainment, but can also serve as a life lesson to understand the
moral values of Japanese culture through the values of Bushido.
