Pengaruh Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) terhadap Perilaku Phubbing pada Remaja Desa Pariwisata Meat
The Influence of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on Phubbing Behavior among Adolescents in Meat Tourism Village
Abstract
This study aims to examine the influence of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on phubbing behavior among adolescents in Meat Tourism Village. FoMO refers to the anxiety or fear of missing out on social experiences and information, which drives individuals to constantly monitor social media and can lead to phubbing—neglecting face-to-face interactions due to excessive smartphone use. The research employed a quantitative correlational method. A total of 103 adolescents aged 14–19 years participated in the study through total sampling. Data were collected using two psychological scales: the FoMO scale adapted from Przybylski et al. (2013) and the phubbing scale based on Karadağ et al. (2015). Results of simple linear regression analysis showed that FoMO significantly influenced phubbing behavior (R² = 0.525, p < 0.05), indicating that 52.5% of phubbing behavior is explained by FoMO, while the remaining 47.5% is influenced by other factors. These findings suggest that higher levels of FoMO are associated with a greater tendency to engage in phubbing behavior among adolescents.
