| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the role of librarians in improving user services at the Library
and Archives Office of Medan City. Beyond collection management, librarians play
an active role in providing information services, promoting literacy, and facilitating
the use of information technology within the community. The objective of this
research is to analyze how librarians contribute to enhancing user services in the
institution. A descriptive method was employed, with data collected through direct
observation, interviews with librarians, literature review, and documentation. The
results reveal that librarians are engaged in multiple service areas, including
circulation, acquisition and processing of library materials, preparation of
administrative reports, operation of OPAC, multimedia services, and document
preservation. However, the study also highlights several challenges, such as limited
technological utilization, human resource constraints, and low levels of digitalservice
adoption by the public. The study concludes that librarians play a vital role in
improving the quality of library services, particularly in adapting to evolving user
needs. Strategic measures are required, including the enhancement of librarians’
competencies through training, the provision of adequate facilities, and the
development of technology-based service innovations, to enable librarians to
contribute more effectively to the advancement of library services. | en_US |
